Wow, it has been a whirlwind summer for me. I didn’t even get a chance to post an Origins report *sigh*.
GenCon was a great time. I think I packed my schedule a
little tight. I scheduled a couple of 14 hour GM days, and I think that might be a bit much. Despite the crazy schedule, I delivered all of my events on the mark (Fallout did get about a 10 min late start), and a scheduling snafu with GenCon left things a bit confusing for the X-Men folks (thanks for working with me, guys). Fun was had all around.

The Be a Champion and Be a Fantasy Hero events were great fun, introducing new people to the system and have a helluva time doing it. Since I added the “Adventure Continues” follow-on sessions, the events seem a bit more focused and many players end up staying for the second session. I still got good feedback that keeping them separate was helpful for people wanting to jump in, however.
Friday we did Darktyde: Left4Dead set in our meta-dystopian setting
Darktyde. Many zombies and dimensional horrors were blended against the gen- and cybermoded crew. The hacking system I’ve been working on also worked out well.

Narosia: Troubled Waters ran on Friday night and this continues to be the funnest adventure I’ve run, at least for me as a GM. Great to see some familiar faces, as well as some new ones and I am so happy how accessible the setting and some of the core mechanics are for these new players.
Saturday was slam-packed with the Avengers/X-Men mega-event Ultimate Nightmare/X-Men final battle. Following the Ultimate Galactus story line (and the first volume of the series), we end up having both the Avengers and X-Men arrive to take the prize, and a big fight ensues. 5 players versus 5 players. Awesome!
Following that, was Fallout: Clean Water Action with some veterans of the first adventure, Trickle Down to Big Town, as well as newcomers to the system and even the setting (one of the Narosia players, new to the system and setting then had such a fun time he wanted to come back and play another round of something). I have to say this is a good follow-up to Trickle Down, and gave me some great ideas for what to do next. I think the finale of the adventure was the most epic, with the entire group split up, doing their own thing, and bringing all manner of grief down around them. Somehow, in an epic combination of luck and planning did they manage to pull it off in a way that can only be described as exhausting. Great job guys!
I was also happy to see the Hero crew, and the Legion of Heroes. Thank you for the conversation at the Bucca, guys. On Sunday I also got to participate on a justified, drive-by, booth thrashing as a Luchadore, led by Darren Watts, to reclaim the Best Supplement from the Hallow Earth guys for beating out Lucha Hero.
See you all next year! Now it’s time to get ready for
U*Con.
